New Play - Transcripts

Kataleifos Interview - Clip 14: The outlook for launching his new play

Kataleifos:
In a month we will start, a little before Christmas. It is a very interesting play. It was performed in America by a theater troupe from Canada. The play is called “Ritter, Dene, Voss,” and it is by a famous Austrian writer, Thomas Bernhard. We are currently rehearsing the play. It is a play with three siblings; the protagonist, whom I play, has many characteristics of Ludwig Wittgenstein, the great philosopher, and Paul Wittgenstein, his nephew. This is a very particular role because the character [I play] has just come out of psychiatric hospital and is somewhere between absolute logic and absolute madness. For this reason you understand that the role is very difficult.

Kataleifos Interview - Clip 15: Projected life-span of his character

Kataleifos:
The character remains suspended in air and at a loss (as at the start): he’s also insecure, in a world that appears quite illogical.

Kataleifos Interview - Clip 16: Placement of his play in time

Kataleifos:
The play was written in 1985; it is not determined exactly when it takes place, but we will likely place it around 1935, thus a little before Austria is annexed to Germany, i.e., before the [second World] War.

Kataleifos Interview - Clip 17: The age of his character

Kataleifos:
He is about 50 years old.

Kataleifos Interview - Clip 18: His comfort-level playing the character

Kataleifos:
This will be seen in the result, but it any case it is an exceptionally interesting role, a very fine role.
